North Carolina Advocates for Justice High School Mock Trial Competition

RE:  North Carolina Advocates for Justice High School Mock Trial Competition

Date: Saturday, February 5, 2011

Dear Fellow Attorneys and Judges:

The North Carolina Advocates for Justice’s Carolina Center for Civic Education is sponsoring the 19th annual North Carolina Advocates for Justice High School Mock Trial Competition.  High school teams will be competing statewide in eight regions.  The regional winners will compete in Raleigh on March 5, 2011 at Campbell University School of Law for the state championship.  The state champion will represent North Carolina in the 28th Annual National High School Mock Trial Competition on May 5-7, 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Please volunteer to serve as evaluating or presiding judges in the Guilford Regional.  It will be held at the High Point Courthouse on Saturday, February 5, 2011.  There are morning, afternoon and championship rounds scheduled at times listed on the enclosed volunteer form.

It is always a challenge to recruit the fifty-plus volunteer judges and lawyers who participate at this competition in High Point, but your participation assures a wonderful experience for students, their families and teachers.  The focus of the competition is on education and teamwork, particularly educating them about the way our court system really works.

This year the students are trying a negligence case involving injuries suffered by a young athlete visiting a zoo as a result of a gorilla attack, ending a promising basketball career.

For a participation form, e-mail Rebecca @ brittonlawfirm.com.
