Volunteer Judges and Jurors Needed – 5th Annual Carolina Classic Mock Trial Tournament Hosted by Elon Undergraduate Mock Trial
Elon Mock
Trial wishes to invite local legal professionals to participate as judges and
jurors in the Carolina Classic Invitational Tournament at Elon University.
Elon competes in the American Mock Trial Association, and we hold our own
national tournament at Elon. This year's tournament is on October 14, 15,
and 16 at the Koury
Business Center
on Elon's main campus. Judges and jurors rate the performance of teams on
opening statements, closing arguments, and direct and cross-examinations. The
case problem for this year is a criminal case (murder trial), and it promises
to bring out excellent work from the students. It is exceptionally
important that these students, coming from as far away as Harvard and as near
as UNC and Duke get the experience of trying cases before attorneys. The
rules of evidence are a simplified derivative of the federal rules.
Because the trials are supposed to be “jury trials”, you do not
need experience in Mock Trial to serve as a judge. Volunteers are encouraged
sign up for as many rounds as they are available.
Please contact Elon University’s
Adjunct Professor and Competitive Teams Coach, William
Warihay at wwarihay@elon.edu to sign-up or with any questions.
